Making It My Own

I moved into my room just over two months ago. Today I made it my own. When I first got here, I wasn't so sure how long I'd stay. Now, with the sale of my house in Texarkana going nowhere and the pleasant atmosphere in the house, I'm thinking I'll probably be here awhile. I don't want to stay forever, as nice as it is. I still want to get back into my own place in the near future. I just have to wait for my house to sell so I can afford it. However, right now, this is what I have and it'll more than do for the moment. I miss my things - my bed, my desk, my big chair, my dogs. It's not awful living with "borrowed" things. I'm very thankful for the bed and the dresser and the closet and the desk that I get to use for the duration of my stay here. It's funny but I never thought about changing the room around. Be That Person

 A friend texted me last night. Her almost twelve year old son is starting middle school today and she was more than a little stressed. I guess it's somewhat normal for parents to be nervous about such milestones in their children's lives. I mean sixth grade means a bigger school, perhaps switching classrooms, more complex homework assignments, etc, etc. I'm sure there's also some wistfulness about the whole thing. The "My baby's growing up" kinda thing. My friend's concerns last night (and again this morning) were far larger. You see, her son is different. He always has been. Not only is he on "the spectrum," he also has Tourettte's. And he's on the fringes of non-binary. Plus, he lives on the border of Texas and Arkansas in a place that is far from open-minded and falls just below marginally accepting. Mid-Crumble

There's a point when sanity stops being easy. Done right everyone will be fooled. They won't see the unraveling, won't even guess. It won't make it any better. Ok, maybe slightly better. Nothing worse than seeing people see the unraveling. Trust me on that one. It'll change a friendship. They say it won't. But it will. It will.   I structure my life a certain way. I haven't always but after teetering on a crumbling precipice a few years back, I don't have a choice. If I want to stay on this side of...well, if I want to stay on this side. Let's just go with that.   My goal is always to 'win today'. Not next month or even next week. One day. Today. Truly, it's all that matters. And once I win today, I can move on to tomorrow.
